Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) plays an important role in DNA synthesis and neurological function. It exists in several forms, the best known being cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin, the latter being the one most absorbed and utilised by our cells.
It is an essential nutrient that must be taken daily in the diet (2.5 μg/day corresponds to 100% of the VNR). It is only synthesised by microorganisms, so food sources that contain it are almost exclusively animals (meat, milk and cans).
Attention should be paid to possible B12 deficiencies by those who follow a vegan diet, but also by those who constantly take antacids and, in general, those with gastro-intestinal tract disorders and diseases (e.g. celiac disease, Chron’s disease, Helicobacter pylori among the most common). This is because vitamin B12, in order to be absorbed, requires a particular fatty acid – called intrinsic fatty acid – produced by the parietal cells of the stomach, which, due to its acidic pH, binds to vitamin B12 to promote its absorption in the intestine.
The sublingual form of METIL-B12 means that the vitamin is absorbed directly into the small blood vessels located there, ensuring maximum absorption more quickly.
Vitamin B12 contributes to normal energy metabolism, normal functioning of the nervous system and psychological function.
Take one tablet daily, dissolved under the tongue.
